Some stories in the pet world just make you grin like a Cheshire cat...so here goes for the new 'Friday Feel-Good Factor' category!
This is the story of a hitchhiking cat that came home, six months after a family thought their beloved pet was gone for ever. The Hinchsliff family from Ladysmith Canada, were devastated when Archie their nine year-old black cat disappeared having snuck into a pickup truck outside Carol Hinchsliff's ex-husbands home in Chemainus. The unsuspecting driver drove his feline hitchiker down the Trans Canada Highway and let him our near Duncan when he discovered him. By the time Carol found out that Archie might be roaming the streets near Duncan, weeks began to pass by, and she and the two Hinchsliff boys, Brennan 15 and Tyler 11, were heartbroken knowing the chances of a rescue were very slim. Carol said, "I never would have expected to find him. It's one in a million." Danielle Bell who wrote the story for Daily News on canada.com explains that " Archie was born on April Fool's Day as the only black cat with three pure white siblings. His loud early beginnings earned him the namesake after Archie Bunker, the character in the 1970's TV show All in the Family."
Archie had done a similar disappearing act two years ago but after vanishing in a snowstorm, he found his way home a month later.
On this second occasion, after six long months, Carol had all but given up hope. However, one day last week, she had a "really strong urge" that led her go back one more time to check Duncan Animal shelters. At the second shelter, one worker pointed out two black cats. One of them was Archie! Reunited with his family at last, Carol said of Archie: "He's a black cat who has the best luck in the world, if he ever does go outside now, he has a leash."
Probably a good precaution, since Archie has used up a couple of his 9 lives!
